All in all, Helldivers 2 is a fantastic co-op game with lots of content (and arguably the best structure to live service I’ve seen in a long time) wrapped up in a nice $40 package. The price point is right (even if you take into consideration the additional $20 “upgrade”), the content is plentiful and it feels like a game that respects your time. I genuinely have a hard time saying anything negative about the game, especially now that the servers are stabilized and the developers are active on Twitter (X, if you care about that detail) updating the community about game updates and stability hiccups.

The work of a Helldiver never ends as more planets fall into the enemy’s clutches and the battle rages on. Play your part in an evolving war to reclaim planets for Super Earth and spread democracy and liberty to the furthest reaches of the galaxy.

Despite the blurry image, the 60fps performance mode is the place to be - it's mostly at the target, dropping into the 50s in the heavier scenes. The 30fps quality mode is OK, but prone to frame-pacing problems and the occasional, genuine drop beneath the performance target.

Overall, we'd say Helldivers 2 is still a fun game solo, though it's not quite as enjoyable as it is when you've got a squad. A big issue with solo play, though, is that completing missions on harder difficulties feels all-but-impossible, limiting how much of the game you can experience.

"We’re dedicated to creating intensely thrilling and hilarious game experiences for our players. Through games as a medium, we are on a mission to cure loneliness and build bridges, one friendly-fire co-op session at a time. We are a value driven company that strives to become the best co-op studio in the world."

The game is priced at $40, which is a pretty significant investment. However, the amount of fun that I’ve had just by spreading blind democracy in the name of freedom is unmatched.

Use your map to find Points of Interest. When you set off on a mission, you'll get quite a bit of time to complete it, so if you want to make the most of a planet, don't beeline for the main mission. Instead, take the time to explore it thoroughly.

Your greatest aids as a Helldiver are stratagems: powerful tools that can be summoned with short button combinations. Everything from airstrikes to Hellpods containing bigger, badder weapons to defensive gear and Em excesso supplies are at your fingertips.

The Automatons are fully mechanized soldiers of a kind never seen before. But their emblem is eerily familiar …

Image: Arrowhead Game Studios Players start out as lowly soldiers tasked with defending Super Earth from a galaxy of bugs (which actually means going to other planets and killing them, no matter where they live). You have your own ship, which serves as your home base and allows you (and your squad of up to three friends) to launch missions to new planets, customize your loadout, and choose recognizable freedom-saving weapons like orbital drone strikes and chemical weapons, called Stratagems.

As for the story ahead, all I can say is that the galaxy will look very different a few months from now than it does today.

Each member of your squad can play according to their own style: some of you will charge into the fight, others will call down a sniper rifle stratagem and maintain a safe distance while picking off the enemies.

Fast loading Can’t wait to get into the action? That’s the Helldiver spirit. Dive straight into the next thrilling battle for freedom with lightning-fast load times.

On a high-end system using a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with RTX 4090, we're typically looking at frame-rates in the 90s with settings fully maxed out at 4K resolution. That's solid performance, but you'd probably want to engage some amount of resolution scaling if playing on a high refresh rate display. Normally, toggling on DLSS would be a pelo-brainer, but of course temporal upscalers aren't supported in this game at the moment. On a more mid-range PC (we looked at a Ryzen 5 3600 with RTX 2070 Super), we get decent enough performance, as long as we're willing to take a settings hit and move down to 1080p resolution on medium settings. Here, we're typically just above 60fps, and while this isn't enough to achieve super high frame-rates at a decent resolution, it's certainly capable of providing a good experience. Stuttering in-game isn't an option, but this seems to happen Helldivers 2 Gameplay when launching into a match, but from there on out, gameplay is refreshingly smooth.
